I am really glad I found the FB group and this article. I'm trying very hard to understand my son. He is 12 years old. I have been emotionally exhausted for years. I imagine he is too. I feel like I'm in a losing battle. Poor choices, no recognition of consequences, suspensions at school have been a norm for years. Its rough.

I am really struggling in getting my son's teachers to understand and be more patient with him. I hate that they depend on medication and I don't want to depend on that anymore. My son is amazing, but I know he struggle with impulse and emotion control. This is so insightful and I can't wait to get the weekly newsletters.

Hi Jamie- I am right there with you...it is definitely a long process of acceptance and accommodation to shart shifting perspective to focus more on the positive. We were there in that heavy place for several years also. Our daughter who has hyperactive subtype is on medication and it has been life changing for her. We tried numerous homeopathic interventions and changes in diet, but nothing came remotely close to the change and progress we saw with ADHD and anxiety medication. We still try to closely watch sugar/processed foods, do behavioral therapy, essential oils and try to fit in lots of nature and exercise. But with any health condition, sometimes meds are needed as it's only fair to our kids' that we give them their best chance to flourish. Our daughter with ADHD inattentive type is not medicated because she has a chronic health condition and is already on many medications... so we're doing our best to manage without for as long as we can. Thanks for reading and commenting, hope to see you around here and in the Children's Mental Health Rocks Facebook group:)

Thank you for sharing. I have a 7 year old son who is twice exceptional. He is like a human calculator. Unfortunately, ADHD was the only thing we saw for a long time. Regulating his emotions and dealing with explosive emotions was so trying, confusing, and exhausting for the longest time. I would love to hear how you handle those types of situations and if medicine is something that you feel is useful for your own children.

So glad it resonated for you Aimee...it can be so isolating without a doubt. Have you been able to find any online communities to get support through? I know it's not the same but it is a blessing of the online world we live in...

This is awesome and I wish more people would try to better understand ADHD. My son is a handful at times but I wouldn’t change him for anything. I try to have him embrace his ADHD as we work together to find ways to deal with his emotions. Thank you sharing this. Sometimes I feel so alone with this as I do t know many other parents who have kids with ADHD.
