Along with using the phrase, helping to coach your child in listening and communicating respectfully may be needed as well. I need to remind me kids often to stop and listen to the what the other is saying and only then offer a thoughtful response. A parent being there to coach through the steps is key initially:)]]></description>

If I told my obnoxious younger brother &quot;I feel angry when you call me stupid&quot; that just gives him more ammunition to use against me. He wouldn&#039;t quit calling me stupid. He would ramp it up to get me to lose my cool.]]></description>
